Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in Kenya, has recently opened its 25th store at Runda Mall in Nairobi.

This follows the opening of a store in Ruiru just a month prior, highlighting the retailer’s rapid expansion within the country.

Spanning 2,500 square meters, the new store offers a wide range of products, including fresh produce, electronics, and household essentials. It also features Carrefour’s innovative self-checkout service, allowing customers to complete their purchases independently.

With this addition, five Carrefour stores in Kenya now offer self-checkout, including Westgate Shopping Mall, Village Market, The Hub, and GTC Mall.

Regional Director East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, Christophe Orcet expressed his enthusiasm about the new store, stating that it will cater to the diverse needs of local customers while contributing to the country’s economic growth through job creation and the promotion of modern retail.

“The new store is expected to create 46 jobs, adding to Carrefour’s existing workforce of over 2,600 employees in Kenya, the vast majority of whom are Kenyan nationals. Additionally, the store will serve as a platform for local suppliers, supporting domestic manufacturers, SMEs, and farmers,” Mr Orcet stated.

He further emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in Kenya and collaborating with local suppliers and farmers to provide fresh, high-quality products to customers.

Carrefour’s network in Kenya now comprises 25 stores, with 20 located in Nairobi, two in Kisumu, and three in Mombasa.

Majid Al Futtaim, an Emirati conglomerate, operates across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The Group employs 43,000 people, boasts US$18 billion in owned assets, and holds a BBB credit rating.

Since 1995, Majid Al Futtaim has exclusively operated Carrefour in 14 markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

To meet the evolving needs of its diverse customer base, Carrefour offers omnichannel shopping experiences. By leveraging innovative physical and digital services, Carrefour provides access to a wide range of quality products at competitive prices, serving 770,000 customers daily.

Committed to supporting local economies, Carrefour say it sources over 80% of its products from the region.
