The Mo Ibrahim Foundation has officially announced that applications for the 2025 Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships are now open.

This prestigious programme, established in 2011, aims to identify and mentor the next generation of exceptional African leaders.

About the Fellowships

Each year, three Fellows are selected to work in the executive offices of leading international organisations: the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa, and the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva.

Fellows receive a generous stipend of $100,000 and gain hands-on experience in leadership, policy design, and research over a 12-month period.

A unique feature of the programme is the opportunity to work directly under the mentorship of the heads of the host organisations, providing Fellows with unparalleled insights into high-level decision-making processes.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be nationals of an African country.
  • Have a minimum of seven years’ relevant work experience.
  • Hold a master’s degree.
  • Be under the age of 40 (or under 45 for women with children).
  • Meet any additional criteria set by the host organisations.

“This Fellowship is more than an opportunity—it’s a call to action for Africa’s future leaders. The programme empowers Fellows to make meaningful contributions, equipping them with the skills and vision needed to build a stronger and more prosperous Africa,” the foundation noted.

Fellows also join the Now Generation Network (NGN), a vibrant community of alumni dedicated to addressing Africa’s most pressing challenges through innovative solutions and leadership.
