In a move aimed at enhancing convenience and flexibility for motorists, Airtel Money Kenya has announced a partnership with Moja Expressway Company to introduce Airtel Money as a payment method for toll fees on the Nairobi Expressway.

With this new system, Airtel Money customers can pay toll fees at exit stations through Manual or Electronic Toll Collection using their Airtel-registered numbers.

Users can top up their accounts via the USSD code *819# or through the Moja Expressway website. For customers using Manual Toll Collection (MTC), payment is further simplified through a push notification requiring only the entry of a PIN.

Celebrating the Festive Season with Free Transactions

As part of the rollout and in celebration of the festive season, Airtel Money has waived transaction charges (excluding partner fees) for toll payments until January 2025.

This initiative is expected to encourage more motorists to use the expressway and adopt the Airtel Money payment platform.

Leaders Highlight the Partnership’s Importance

Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya, Anne Kinuthia Otieno emphasized the role of partnerships in enhancing customer experiences.

“In today’s environment, fostering strong partnerships and delivering clear value to our customers is the way forward. We are pleased to join hands with Moja Expressway Company to offer our customers a secure and convenient way to pay expressway toll fees,” said Ms Otieno.

She added that the collaboration aligns with Airtel Money’s mission of providing seamless and flexible digital payment solutions, benefiting all stakeholders while reducing reliance on cash.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Moja Expressway, Steve Zhao noted that the partnership supports Moja’s vision of providing fast, safe, and seamless transportation.

“From inception, the Nairobi Expressway was designed to provide a fast, safe, and convenient commute to motorists and businesses alike. The introduction of Airtel Money as one of the payment options is a testament to our brand promise,” said Mr Zhao.

Simplified Payment Process

Motorists can pay toll fees in the following ways:

  1. Using Airtel Registered Numbers: Simply use your Airtel Money account for toll payment at exit stations.
  2. Topping Up via USSD or Website: Use the USSD code *819# or visit the Moja Expressway website to fund your Airtel Money wallet.
  3. Manual Toll Collection (MTC): Upon receiving a push notification, enter your PIN to complete the transaction securely.

This collaboration reinforces Moja Expressway and Airtel Money’s commitment to providing innovative, customer-focused solutions, ensuring a smoother and cashless journey for expressway users.
