YouTube is experimenting with a floating “Play Something” button designed to select a video for you automatically.
The Verge reported that the video-streaming giant is experimenting with a new floating “Play something” button designed to pick a video for users automatically.
According to 9to5Google, the button appears in the YouTube app for Android, hovering just above the bottom navigation bar. When tapped, it selects a video to play for you.
This latest iteration of the feature reportedly leverages the portrait-oriented YouTube Shorts player to display videos—whether they are vertically formatted Shorts or standard YouTube content.
“It’s unclear if this will remain the case when the feature is more broadly released, but many users are likely hoping for changes,” the verge noted.
YouTube has been testing variations of this concept for over a year, including a “Play Something” banner and a minimalist button resembling a black-and-white YouTube logo.
