Techstars, a global network that helps entrepreneurs succeed, today announced the launch of a new accelerator program in Botswana.
This initiative aims to support and scale high-growth startups within the region, providing them with access to mentorship, funding, and Techstars’ extensive international network.
“Botswana’s stable governance and ambition for tech-led economic diversification make it an ideal environment for Techstars to catalyze change,” said the accelerator, “We believe this program will not only transform the entrepreneurial landscape of Botswana but also foster economic integration and innovation across the Southern African region.“
This expansion into Botswana follows Techstars’ previous foray into Africa with the ARM Labs Lagos Techstars Accelerator in Nigeria, which operated from 2022 to 2024.
While the Lagos program successfully supported 12 African startups from Nigeria and Kenya, it was discontinued in November 2024.
The Botswana accelerator is expected to:
- Drive economic growth: By nurturing a new generation of tech-driven enterprises and fostering innovation.
- Enhance startup resilience: Through mentorship, funding, and access to global markets.
- Promote cross-border collaboration: By connecting entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts across Southern Africa.
This initiative aligns with Botswana’s national goals of diversifying its economy beyond diamond mining and embracing technology as a key driver of sustainable growth.
