The M-Pesa Foundation has committed Ksh95 million to enhance maternal health care in Busia and Bungoma counties by constructing new health facilities.

In Busia County, a Ksh 50 million investment will transform Nasewa Health Centre with a modern maternity unit.

This project will benefit approximately 12,000 residents by improving access to essential maternal and child health services.

To ensure uninterrupted service delivery, the facility will also receive a back-up generator and water tanks.

Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation, Joseph Ogutu emphasized the organization’s commitment to improving community health.

He highlighted their partnership with county governments across Kenya to provide essential infrastructure and equipment, enabling accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services.

“We invest in health through various programs which address critical needs in our communities. Among these needs is maternal and child health. We partner with County governments in all 47 counties to ensure that the required infrastructure and equipment is in place to enable quality, affordable and accessible services, ” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman, Safaricom Foundation.

In Bungoma County, the Foundation will invest Ksh 45 million to establish a new maternity unit at Naitiri Sub-County Hospital.

This unit will include dedicated spaces for antenatal care, delivery, postnatal care, and improved facilities for newborn care.

Recent health initiatives by the M-Pesa Foundation in Bungoma County include a series of fistula camps at Webuye County Hospital.

These camps provided free treatment and surgeries to over 200 women from the county and surrounding regions.

In June of the previous year, the Foundation, in collaboration with Zuri Health, organized a comprehensive medical camp at Posta Grounds in Bungoma Town.

This camp offered a wide range of health services to 3,000 residents, including eye exams, breast cancer screenings, fistula screenings, dental care, and general medical consultations.
