Airtel Kenya has launched Airtel Lite, a new Progressive Web App (PWA) designed to provide a lighter, faster, and more accessible self-care experience.
This launch coincides with the announcement of zero-rating the My Airtel app, Airtel’s existing self-care app.
Airtel Lite offers similar capabilities to the My Airtel app but is designed for smartphones with limited storage and processing power.
It requires zero storage space on phones and, like the My Airtel app, offers zero-rated access, including offline access to key services.
“At Airtel Kenya, we are constantly striving to address our customer needs in ways that add real value to their lives,” said Mr. Ashish Malhotra, Airtel Kenya Managing Director. “Our research revealed that many Kenyans still face challenges such as limited storage space and data usage in the use of their smartphones. Airtel Lite is our innovative solution, designed to remove these barriers and ensure a seamless, accessible digital experience for all.”
Airtel Lite aims to bridge the gap for users accustomed to USSD services, offering a smoother transition to digital services.
It also promotes financial inclusion by facilitating access to mobile banking and digital payments, especially in underserved areas.
“Airtel Lite is a gateway to digital empowerment for millions of Kenyans,” added Mr. Malhotra. “By ensuring that every customer no matter their device, can access our services, we are making sure that no one is left behind in the country’s digital transformation journey.”
Airtel Lite is available to all Airtel Kenya customers and can be accessed through their phone’s browser here.
