As the holy month of Ramadan commences, Bolt Food has joined forces with over 250 restaurants across Nairobi to cater to the increased demand for evening meal deliveries.
With a focus on enhancing the Iftar experience, the platform has introduced exclusive Ramadan menus featuring popular traditional dishes such as Biryani, Kebab, Bhajia, Samosas, Grilled Meats, and Fresh Juices.
Among the participating restaurants are Pizza Inn, Mezza, Shabz Bar-B-Que, ChopIt Express, Chowpaty, Artcaffe, Al-Yusra Restaurant, and Papparoti Kenya.
To make meals more accessible, Bolt Food is offering special discounts ranging from 25% to 50%, allowing customers to enjoy quality meals at affordable prices.
Expansion to Meet Growing Demand
Bolt Food General Manager Edgar Kitur highlighted the platform’s commitment to timely service, stating, “As Ramadan begins, we have previously seen an influx in orders, especially in areas such as Eastleigh, Mathare, Parklands, Nyali, South B, and Imara Daima, in the evening. This has led us to add over 200 more restaurants with a variety of Iftar cuisine to cater to this demand. Recognising the importance of punctuality for Iftar, we are committed to ensuring that meals are delivered within 30-45 minutes of ordering. Additionally, select restaurants will operate 24/7 to accommodate those who prefer to order after 10 PM.”
Significant Growth in Food Deliveries
The surge in demand for halal meals during Ramadan has been reflected in Bolt Food’s impressive growth.
In 2024, the platform recorded notable increases in food deliveries across key areas with high Muslim populations.
Eastleigh and Mathare saw a 62% rise in orders, while Parklands experienced a 59% increase.
South B and Imara Daima also saw a 48% growth in deliveries, indicating a heightened reliance on online food services during the fasting period.
Mombasa has also witnessed a sharp rise in Bolt Food’s presence, particularly in Bamburi Nyali, which experienced an astounding 542% increase in delivered orders.
Growing Popularity of Food Delivery Services
The trend of online food and grocery shopping continues to gain traction in Nairobi.
In 2023, approximately 9.3% of Kenyans opted for online food and grocery purchases, a figure projected to rise to 16.7% by 2027.
To meet this evolving demand, Bolt Market has been integrated into the platform, enabling customers to order groceries and essential items from morning until late at night, with the added convenience of scheduling deliveries in advance.
Mr Kitur emphasized the company’s commitment to affordability, stating, “Affordability remains a key focus for Bolt Market, with the platform offering free delivery within a 3-kilometer radius and discounts of up to 80% during select promotional periods. Our goal is to make this season more convenient while empowering small businesses to thrive.”
