E-mobility firm, Uber has announced the launch of “Uber Van” in Nairobi, Kenya, offering drivers the ability to transport larger groups of passengers in one trip.
This is Uber’s largest ride option, accessible through the app, designed for riders needing vehicles with at least six passenger seats.
It’s ideal for those traveling in large groups or wanting to keep everyone together on a single trip.
Whether you’re heading on a family vacation with extra luggage or attending an event with friends, Uber Van provides spacious rides with additional seats and room for belongings.
According to Uber, this service responds to rider requests for larger vehicles, particularly for airport travel or group trips requiring ample space for passengers and luggage.
Uber Van is the platform’s largest ride category tailored to meet these needs.
“Uber Van is our premium ride option for riders seeking luxury or transport for groups of up to six people. The fare for an Uber Van trip will be higher than rides taken using Uber Comfort or UberXL,” the company stated.
How to Request Uber Van in Kenya
- Open the Uber app and input your destination in the “Where to?” field.
- Verify your pickup and destination addresses, then select Uber Van at the bottom of the screen and tap to confirm.
- Once matched with a driver, view the driver’s picture and vehicle details, and track their arrival on the map. Ensure the vehicle details match those in the app before entering.
- As with other rides, you can add multiple stops along the way and split the fare.
Uber also highlighted that this new option not only enhances passenger comfort but also boosts driver earnings.
Uber Van, specifically designed for spacious and comfortable rides, will have higher pricing compared to Uber Comfort and UberXL.
Riders can add up to two additional stops to pick up or drop off friends or family.
“With Uber Van, families, friends, and larger groups can enjoy a roomy and convenient way to get around town, travel to or from the airport, attend business conferences, or have a fun night out. It’s also great for adventure seekers carrying travel or sporting equipment,” Uber stated.
