Meta’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, has rapidly gained popularity, surpassing 500 million monthly active users in just over a year.
The chatbot, launched in September 2023, is now available in 43 countries and multiple languages.
It’s integrated into various Meta apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, and is also accessible through a dedicated web app.
AI-Powered Growth
Meta Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mark Zuckerberg highlighted AI’s significant impact on the company’s growth.
“AI-driven improvements to feed and video recommendations have led to an 8% increase in time spent on Facebook and a 6% increase on Instagram this year. Over a million advertisers used Meta’s AI tools to create 15 million ads in the past month,” Zuckerberg noted.
Llama and Infrastructure Investments
Meta’s large language model, Llama, has gained significant traction in the industry.
The company recently released Llama 3.2, including smaller models for on-device use and open-source multi-modal models.
Llama 4 is currently under development, with Meta training it on a cluster of over 100,000 H100 GPUs.
To support these AI initiatives, Meta has increased its annual spending forecast to USD 38-40 billion.
The company expects significant infrastructure investments in servers, data centers, and network infrastructure.
Future Outlook
Meta AI is poised to become the most-used AI assistant globally by the end of the year, the tech giant noted.
The company said it is is focused on expanding the chatbot’s capabilities and making it more valuable to users.
While Meta doesn’t have immediate plans for an in-house search engine, it’s leveraging AI to enhance its existing search offerings.
